What is an Infrared Sauna
An infrared sauna is a type of sauna that uses infrared lamps to warm the body directly, rather than just the air around you (like traditional saunas do). Infrared light is a type of electromagnetic radiation that is effective in penetrating the skin and soft tissues beneath it, allowing the heat to reach deeper layers of muscles and joints for more effective relaxation and recovery.
Our saunas also utilise chromotherapy, using a range of coloured lights to support mood and overall wellbeing. This allows you to enjoy the deep, soothing heat of an infrared sauna at comfortable temperatures, while also benefiting from the added effects of colour therapy.
What Are the Benefits of an Infrared Sauna Session?
Regular sessions in an IR sauna are widely understood to have a range of benefits, including:
- Accelerates recovery: Gentle heat penetrates your muscles, helping to reduce soreness and speed up recovery after exercise or injury.
- Improves sleep quality: Regular sessions promote relaxation and help regulate your body’s natural sleep patterns.
- Releases toxins (detoxification): Supports the body’s natural elimination of toxins through sweat.
- Encourages relaxation: The warmth and quiet environment help lower stress levels, calm the nervous system, and provide a peaceful, meditative experience.
- Burns calories: Increased heart rate and circulation during a session can contribute to calorie burning and support healthy weight management.
- Provides relief from sore muscles and some chronic conditions: Eases muscle tension, joint stiffness, and discomfort associated with conditions like arthritis.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between an infrared sauna and a traditional sauna?
Infrared saunas differ from traditional saunas in a few ways, particularly with regard to the heating method, experience, benefits, and energy consumption.
- Heating Method: Traditional saunas heat the air around you, which in turn heats the body (this can be uncomfortable for some). Infrared saunas use infrared light to warm the body directly without significantly warming the surrounding air.
- Temperature: Traditional saunas typically operate at 150–195°F, whereas infrared saunas run at a lower temperature of 120–140°F. This also means that infrared saunas use less energy and can be more comfortable for longer sessions.
- Benefits: Both types promote relaxation, sweating, and circulation, but infrared saunas are often noted for deeper tissue penetration, potentially helping with muscle recovery, detoxification, and pain relief at lower heat levels.
How can I prepare for a session in the infrared sauna?
Stay hydrated! Why? Because you’re going to sweat a lot, so hydration is key! You’re also welcome to bring a drink bottle in with you.
Is there anything I should know before my first session?
Our top tips for using our infrared sauna are:
- Start at a low temp and slowly build up every ten minutes or so
- Always keep sessions to 30 minutes or less
- Hydrate yourself before, during, and after! Keep drinking that h20
- Rinse off afterwards to wash off all those toxins you sweated out
What do I wear during my infrared sauna session?
As little as possible—most like to wear swimmers in the sauna, but we also offer a towel if that is what you’re most comfortable wearing. We also recommend bringing light enough clothing that you’ll feel comfortable wearing after the session.
Is infrared light safe?
Infrared saunas are generally considered safe for most people. They use far-infrared light, a gentle form of heat energy, which penetrates the skin and warms muscles and tissues without the extreme temperatures of a traditional sauna.
Most healthy adults can enjoy regular sessions, but it’s important to stay hydrated and avoid overly long sessions. If you have certain medical conditions, are pregnant, or have implanted medical devices, it’s best to consult your healthcare provider before using an infrared sauna. Overall, they offer a safe and effective way to promote relaxation, improve circulation, and support overall well-being.
